about

Performed live into a single microphone during the depths of the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic. The world has no use for rock bands at the moment, so I tried to perform these as quietly and intimately as possible, so quiet the walls may not hear. The volume that is used to ensure I don't disrupt anyone. The volume I use when I'm singing only to myself. The kind of volume that prevents one from belting out confident vocal melodies. The kind of volume that's sometimes overpowered by the cicadas and the traffic and the mere rubbing of a guitar against my thigh. The kind of volume that's so close to my ears that if you were to hear it our heads might be touching.

"Feels like what it sounds like to sit in a room with someone while they show you a new song they wrote. Which is a feeling I think everyone could use these days." - DL

"God that guitar sounds amazing. And your voice sounds great, maybe better than I've ever heard it. Apple Studies is gorgeously performed and recorded." - BG

"I am having feelings." - DF

"Holy shit. More later." - JH

"Fantastic! Great collection of songs. Catchy without being overtly poppy. Neat chords. I really like how stripped down and intimate they sound. It feels really appropriate for this moment in time- all the isolation in our individual, private spaces." - HS

"Well, this is very beautiful. Wow. This is such a time of going into the interior, both literally and symbolically and these songs just speak so deeply to that. There’s an intimacy also that feels so vulnerable and moving. I love the sounds of outside and your tiny movements are included, so good. I hope these songs have been a container for all of the big feelings that have come with this new reality.
Empress Pt II really resonated, about half way through I just started crying, lots of emotion and empathy overflow around your sadness and your intimate relationship with depression. A few things we’ve talked about came up, that question of who would I be without my sadness? Without my cynicism and anticipation of dissatisfaction? Seems easy to let go of but actually not at all. The line that really got me is, the empress keeps me in my place, man o man. So accurate, cause we get stuck at some former point of profound disappointment that then gets turned inward on the self and we come to believe that empress is all we deserve. It's beautiful that you can get this out of you and into such a meaningful piece of art. Much respect on being brave enough to create this."
